Minimum Rainfall Inter-Event Time to Separate Rainfall Events in a Low Latitude Semi-Arid Environment

چکیده
Water scarcity in dry tropical regions is expected to intensify due climate change. Characterization of rainfall events needed for a better assessment the associated hydrological processes, and proposition adaptation strategies. There still no consensus on most appropriate method separate from continuous database, although minimum inter-event time (MIET) commonly used criterion. Semi-arid low latitudes hold distinct pattern compared their equivalent at higher latitudes; these seasonally forests experience strong spatial–temporal variability with intense short-duration events, which, association high energy surplus potential evaporation, leads an atmospheric water deficit. In this study, we identified adequate MIET based data continuously measured 5-min intervals over last decade (2009–2020) semi-arid northeast Brazil. The were grouped according different MIETs: 15 min, 1 h, 2 3 6 12 24 h determine depth, duration intensity 5, 30, 60 between respective temporal distribution, without single tip events. Including dataset affected number characteristics up h. A characterize distribution region. Three classes defined duration, intensity: I-small (77% below 40 mm 32 mm/h), II-high (3% 36 76 III-longer depth (20%). This study useful understanding how relates other ecohydrological processes provides more precise information event scale.

Solar Radiation Estimation from Rainfall and Temperature Data in Arid and Semi-arid Climates of Iran
Precipitation and air temperature data, only, are often recorded at meteorological stations, with radiation beingmeasured at very few weather stations, especially in developing countries. Therefore there arises a need for suitablemodels to estimate solar radiation for a completion of data sets. This paper is about an evaluation of eight models foran estimation of daily solar radiation (Q) from ...
متن کاملUse of the IHACRES rainfall-runoff model in arid and semi arid regions
Streamflow in arid and semi-arid regions tends to be dominated by rapid responses to intense rainfall events. Such events frequently have a high degree of spatial variability, coupled with poorly gauged rainfall data. This sets a fundamental limit on the capacity of any rainfall-runoff model to reproduce the observed flow. The IHACRES model is a parameterically efficient rainfall-runoff model t...
متن کاملTemporal variation of interrill erosion under different rainfall intensities in semi-arid soils
Interrill erosion can change during rainfall due to change of soil conditions. This research was carried out to investigate the temporal variation of interrill erosion in different soils under different rainfall intensities. For this purpose, laboratory experiments were carried out in three soil textures consists under three simulated rainfalls under slope of 10 percent in three replications...
متن کاملDetermination of Susceptibility to Rill and Interrill Erosion of some Semi-Arid Soils using Rainfall Simulator in Laboratory Conditions
In semi-arid regions, soils are weakly aggregated and subjected to water erosion processes especially rill and interrill erosion. There is no information on the rate of these water erosion types in semi-arid soils located in the hillslopes. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the soils susceptibility to these erosion types in semi-arid region. A laboratory experiment was done in ei...
متن کاملVariability of Rainfall in a Semi-Arid Catchment in Burkina Faso
s The climate in the Sahel is marked by the spatial and temporal variability of rainfall. As the agriculture is mainly rainfed in Burkina Faso, the information about rainfall is crucial to help the farmers in their decisions. A network of wireless sensorscope stations is installed in the catchment of the Singou River (in the Gourma region of Burkina Faso) and monitor at a time step of 5 minutes...
